About The Dark Peak Vineyard
So-called because the village of Mellor sits in the Dark Peak, where a layer of dark gritstone covers the limestone that makes up the spectacular landscape of the Peak District.
From the vineyard the views extend east into the Peaks, up to St Thomas’s Church with Kinder Scout beyond. The south and west aspects take in Lyme Park, Disley and the hills of North Wales in the distance. If you turn north, though, the skyline of Manchester appears over the shoulder of the hill. We’re a farm that seems miles from anywhere, but we’re minutes from everywhere. Our wine will marry the wilderness of the Peaks with the warmth and heart of the city it overlooks. This is the story of Greater Manchester’s first vineyard.
Be Part Of The Dark Peak Vineyard
Planted in May 2024, we hope to produce our first vintages in 2027 for still wine, and in 2028 for sparkling. All this has been made possible thanks to our fantastic community of members. Membership of the vineyard secures you one of our first cases of wine, once it is ready for drinking, discounts on future wine purchases and invitations to exclusive member events, such as the Mellor Bud Rub and the Harvest Hop. Importantly, our members raised the money to put the vines in the ground, and membership continues to support our work and investment in The Dark Peak. We’d like our members to feel part of the vineyard and its evolution – and we hope you’ll join us.
